What You Will Experience:


Nature's Role in Healing
On this retreat, you'll be guided deep into the secluded beauty of Manitou Island, a place untouched by the modern world where nature's quiet wisdom will surround you. In these tranquil, isolated spaces, away from the noise and demands of daily life, you’ll find the peace necessary to begin the healing process. Even if you've never backpacked before, rest assured—you'll be guided every step of the way, learning the skills you need to feel confident and safe in the wilderness.


Mushroom Walk & Meditation
Mushrooms, often seen as symbols of death and decay, play an essential role in the renewal of life. As we walk through the forest, we'll explore how these fascinating organisms contribute to the cycle of life and how their existence parallels our journey through grief. Following this walk, a meditation will help you connect with this idea of renewal, offering a new perspective on loss.


Creative Writing in Nature
Grief can be difficult to articulate, but through creative writing, you'll have the opportunity to express and process your emotions in a safe and supportive environment. Surrounded by nature’s serene beauty, you’ll find the words that resonate with your deepest feelings, allowing you to give voice to the pain and love intertwined in your grief.


Acts of Kindness
As night slowly paves the way for dawn, converting grief into acts of service can transform your loss into a source of positive energy. We’ll discuss meaningful ways to honor your loved ones, turning your sorrow into something that brings light to others, and in doing so, bring a measure of healing to yourself.


Beach Meditation
At the edge of the vast, calming waters, you’ll participate in a meditation designed to help you find a place within your heart where you can always visit your loved one. Grief, like the waves of the lake, comes and goes in intensity. This meditation will help you hold space for these emotions with self-compassion and understanding, guiding you toward peace as you learn to navigate the ebb and flow of loss.

Itinerary


Your guide will take care of all the details regarding planning, packing, what to expect and what gear to bring through a pre-trip  zoom call.

Day 1:
Join us at the designated meeting spot at 9 AM—directions will be sent upon registration and payment. We’ll start by dividing up food and gear, then gather for a circle to set our intentions. Our journey begins with a serene ferry ride across the Manitou Passage. Once we arrive, we’ll hike to our camp, set up, and enjoy a delicious dinner. As night falls, we’ll gather for a beach meditation.  We’ll then settle into our tents, falling asleep under a blanket of stars, with the soothing sound of the waves lulling us to rest.

Day 2:
Wake up to hot beverages and breakfast as we begin our day with a morning circle, meditation, and intention setting. We might even take a refreshing dip in Lake Michigan! After preparing for our day, we’ll embark on a guided hike across the island, immersing ourselves in its natural beauty. In the afternoon, you'll have the opportunity for wild exploration and deepening your connection with nature through guided activities, including a unique Mushroom Shrin Yoku hike. After dinner, we’ll gather for a group activity of a thoughtful discussion on ways to honor our losses and find peace.

Day 3:
Enjoy hot beverages and breakfast as we prepare to pack up and hike back. We’ll savor lunch along the way and conclude our retreat with a final gratitude circle before meeting the ferry. As we say our goodbyes, we’ll carry forward a renewed appreciation for life-affirming nature, our personal path, and ourselves. We aim to return to our cars by or before 5:30 PM, with hearts full and spirits uplifted.

Every person can open up, be real, and reimagine themselves while finding a new community of friends.

I humbly share my inspiring collection of ancient wisdom, personal stories, and the sage advice I’ve gained through my experience and reflection as an explorer, writer, coach, and facilitator. Sharing my deeply personal experience of how I overcame obstacles to accomplish my dreams, I’m here to guide you through your own bold adventure, ensuring that you feel safe, supported, and truly connected to the natural world around you.

As a seasoned nature mentor and international tour guide, I bring decades of hands-on experience in leading individuals through some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.
